Strategy with the SIM

Image
Throughout the semester, we were required to work on a simulation called Mimic Social. We were given a mock social media marketing internship for a company called Buhi. Buhi sold different types of bags, and we were required to market them on social media. The simulation gave a vast array of information for us to use such as demographics, marketing tactics, and weekly letters from our boss. It made it seem like we were real interns.  When I started the simulation, I thought it was very overwhelming. Social media marketing is a tedious process, and I am a perfectionist. I remember I spent almost two hours on my first round. My first simulation round only proved how much of a perfectionist I am in my work. In addition, the simulation brought out a competitive nature. As an athlete, I am naturally competitive, but I have not experienced professional competition yet. This makes me a little nervous about the lengths I will go to in my professional career to be a top dog. Simply put, I l...

Talking About the Textbook

Image
Throughout our spring semester, we studied the "Essentials of Social Media Marketing" textbook to further our understanding of social media. We studied the textbook through a program called Stukent. Stukent involves students interactively with up-to-date information. At the end of each chapter, the author gave an analysis of the actions of the different platforms during the pandemic. In addition, Stukent provided slide decks, expert sessions and quizzes at the end of each chapter. Personally, I took advantage of the provided tools. I wrote my notes with my screen split to see the slides and my document. After each chapter, I went back to take the quiz to test my comprehension of the content. Honestly, some chapters were better than others, but you live and learn.  This semester opened my eyes to the world of social media marketing. I had no clue the amount of detail business accounts provide for users. Business accounts are a great tool for anyone attempting to accomplish a b...

Strategic with Social Media Marketing Campaigns

Image
Social media marketing campaigns are the base for companies looking to achieve a marketing or business goal in today's world. The days of paying for a billboard or radio ad are nearly diminished. I have talked frequently about how social media has taken over the world, and it is so true.  Social media marketing campaigns are carefully planned and executed by a team. It is imperative that the campaigns have a start and end date to ensure consistent productivity.  A campaign’s team members are delegated specific tasks within the total campaign.  Social media marketing campaigns can be created by large companies like Nabisco or smaller companies like a local boutique. When creating a campaign, teams use the AIDA model. The AIDA model stands for attention, interest, desire and action. These attributes help reveal the best ways to appeal to the target audiences. When the target audiences are reached, it is only a matter of time before the company will see the true effects of i...

Podcasting Project

Image
One of the last topics we are covering in our social media course is podcasts. Podcasts are a great way for viewers to feel connected to the creators. They offer personal interactions about a variety of topics. Podcasts can be formatted into episodes and are usually led by at least one person. Since the pandemic, podcasts have grown immensely. People turned to podcasts for a sense of reassurance and authenticity in their struggles. They were the voices that the people needed to hear. Ammryn and I chose to work on our podcast together, which I do not think was a surprise to anyone. What could go wrong with Ammryn and I partnering on an assignment where talking is the first criterion? We chose to focus on the issue of authenticity on social media for the assignment. It is hard to figure out when a social media page is showing its true colors. Nothing aggravates me more than when a social media page is a highlight reel. It creates an unrealistic image for followers to have in their heads....

Just Add it to the Calendar

Image
The majority of society interacts with some form of social media at least once a day. During our first social media class, Dr. Aggie made us look up our social media usage. I am quite embarrassed to say I use social media over 2 hours a day. That is 14 hours a week, 56 hours a month and 672 hours a year. How do social media managers or influencers survive their careers? Chapter 3 teaches us how effective social media calendars and schedules help in maintaining a strong personal brand. Content calendars include important dates such as holidays or promotions so content can be created accordingly. In addition, content calendars can help plan when videos, blogs, and brand deals are going to be posted. Most content creators are dealing with a wide variety of apps to push their company content to viewers. I cannot imagine how overwhelming this can become, especially when social media managers are focusing on other factors such as content quality, shares, public response and impact for the co...

Is Social Media Really Good for Companies?

Image
Social media runs almost every aspect of our lives. I rarely walk past someone that is not on their phone. People do not seem to care that they are driving on the road if it means they can check a snapchat or a comment on their post. Social media has even taken over the business world. The problem is determining whether or not that is good for companies. Social media may seem like the next big thing, but it is causing a ton of issues in the business industry. Navigating social media is not an easy task to handle. Michelle Charello made note that a lot of experienced businessmen and women are lost when it comes to social media. This makes it even harder for companies to hire quality workers who were well rounded in their field of interest. In addition social media requires around the clock monitoring. Companies are creating new positions that focus only on social media. The negative feedback learned from social media can take companies off-guard and cause issues that were not there to s...
