Welcome Home Weekend

If I am being honest, I did not want to go home this weekend. Ohio Northern is starting to feel more like home, which is great. Last year was rough for me. When you go to college, your entire life is turned upside down. I know I didn't handle it as well as my friends. I spent multiple nights crying because I was not used to being so far away from my twin brother. My parents felt they needed to call me every minute. They were so worried for me.

This year has been an entire flip from last year. I find myself with numerous unanswered calls and texts from my family. I am genuinely enjoying my time. Thus, I am not glued to my phone. A key aspect of my new outlook at Ohio Northern is living in an apartment. The dorms felt suffocating. There was no space for anyone to move around, and we had no privacy. In the apartment, I can close my door anytime I want, or I can sit with all my roommates in the living room. The apartments feel like home, not a jail cell. I know this sounds like an exaggeration, but life is so much better in the apartments.

Even though I did not want to go home, I still went home. My car has a broken brake pad, and my younger brother was playing in a baseball tournament all weekend. It may seem silly to drive through Columbus to watch my little brother play, but I know it meant the world to him. I never want him to think I just moved away to college and stopped caring about his events. He was forced to come to every tournament and game I played in since he was born. I see it is only fair I make the trips to his games. Sadly, my car was left at home. It is scheduled to go into the shop next week, but I did not want to make another trip home this weekend.

My time home was enjoyable, but it doesn't feel like my home anymore. Ohio Northern is my home. This is a great feeling to have and makes me have a better outlook on this year.

  1. Brooke, I am so happy you are enjoying school more! I remember my freshman year having a hard time adapting but before I knew it, I met all of my friends and enjoyed school more than ever! All I can say is enjoy it while you are there, it will go by so fast.
